Q

How is mass conserved in a combination reaction?

A

The same atoms/elements are present in both the reactants and products. The atoms/elements combine to produce the product which contains the same atoms as the reactants. In the product the —– ions came from the —– and so on. The product is —– as it combines the two reacting elements. The reactants and products both contain the
same number of each type of atom (show example) .The reactants will weigh the same as the products unless a reactant or product has been introduced or lost from the system.

Q

What happens if there is a limited supply of a reactant?

A

The reaction will end because there is none left of one of the reactants to react with the other reactant, therefore cannot continue.
