A Spanish conquerer or leader.
What was the Columbian Exchange?
Trading goods between the “Old World” (Europe) and the “New World” (America).
What is mercantilism?
An economic system In which the government stricly regulates trade and manufactural and agricultural developments.
What is capitalism?
A system in which individuals and companies can own transportation and factories without government regulation.
What is Small Pox?
A disease that causes a fever and rashing often resulting in death. It was brought to America from Europe.
What is “Triangular Trade?”
Triangular Trade is when Country A sells to Country C and uses that money to buy from Country B.
What was the Middle Passage?
The forced voyage of enslaved Africans across the Atlantic Ocean to the Americas.
What is the Old World?
The eastern hemisphere exclusive of Australia; specifically : the continent of Europe.
What is the New World?
The continental landmass of North and South America.
What is a slave?
Someone who is legally owned by another person and is forced to work for that person without pay.
What is an indentured servant?
A person who signs and is bound by indentures to work for another for a specified time especially in return for payment of travel expenses and maintenance.
Who was Christopher Columbus?
An Italian navigator who discovered the New World in the service of Spain while looking for a route to China.
Who was Hernan Cortés?
A Spanish conquistador who defeated the Aztecs and conquered Mexico (1485-1547).
Who was Francisco Pizarro?
A Spanish conquistador who conquered the Incas in what is now Peru and founded the city of Lima (1475-1541).
What was the Treaty of Tordesillas?
The Treaty of Tordesillas was a document signed at Tordesillas on 7 June 1494 that divided the newly discovered lands outside Europe between Portugal and Spain.
