Colours EOY notes Flashcards
How can we see a rainbow with seven colours?
Sunlight strikes the tiny water droplets in the mist and is
refracted. Each colour in sunlight is refracted through a
different angle. Each colour is then reflected back into our
eyes. Thus, we see a rainbow with seven colours.
What is white light made of?
White light is made up of seven different colours (red,
orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). Which can
be classify as primary and secondary colours.
What are the primary colours?
red,green,blue
What are the secondary colours?
cyan, yellow, magneta
How do we see colours?
The colour of an object depends on the colour it reflects into
the observer’s eyes.
For instance, a red apple reflects red light into the observer’s
eyes and absorb the rest of the colours. Therefore, the apple
appears red.
What happens if we shine white light into a red, blue and green ball?
Each ball will reflect their respective colours.
This is because white light contains all the colours in
the spectrum.
What happens if we shine white light into a red, blue and green ball?
Only the red ball will reflect the red light.
The blue ball will absorb the red light. It can only reflect
blue light.
The green ball will absorb the red light. It can only reflect
green light.
What happens if we shine white light into a yellow ball?
The yellow ball will reflect its own colour, yellow, which
is made up of primary colours red and green.
