Colour Changes Flashcards
Iodine ions to Iodine molecules
starch yellow/brown goes blue/black
Iodine molecules to Iodine ions
starch is colourless
Permanganate ions
-when permanganate ions are present the solution will be purple
-as soon as the permanganate ions are used up it will turn colourless
Cobalt Ions
when cobalt ions are used the reaction is first pink then the reaction takes place and it turn green and goes back to green since catalyst regenerates
zinc
when zinc turns into an ion it goes brown
copper ions to copper molecule
when copper ions turn into molecule it loses its blue colour
Iodide ions to iodine molecules by hydrogen peroxide
brown colour can be seen as iodide ions are converted to iodine molecules by hydrogen peroxide
Potassium Permanganate
potassium permanganate is used in redox titrations as its self indicating, purple permanganate ions are reduced to colourless mangane ions.
Dichromate
dichromate is used as a reagent in the oxidation of alcohols and aldehydes, changes from orange dichromate to blue/green chromate ions.
