Caecal, ascending or proximal transverse tumour
Right hemicolectomy

distal transverse or descending colon tumours
Left hemicolectomy
Surgery for:
sigmoid tumours
Sigmoid colectomy
Surgery for:
low sigmoid or high rectal tumours
Anterior resection
Surgery for:
tumours low in the rectum
adominoperineal resection + permanent colostomy
When is a Hartmann’s procedure usually considered?
When there is an obstruction requiring emergency relief
Problems with faecal occult blood testing?
Low patient acceptability and high false positive rate (around 10%)
