Color Flashcards
What monochromatic and compound light are
Monochromatic light is light that is of a single wavelength, like a laser beam. Compound light is light that is composed of a combination of different wavelengths, like sunlight or the light emitted by a lightbulb
What a metamer is
A metamer is a pair or set of colors that match under one set of lighting conditions but not another. This is because the colors reflect or emit light in similar ways, making them appear the same under certain lighting conditions.
What the CIE XYZ and CIE Lab color systems are
The CIE XYZ and CIE Lab color systems are color spaces that are used to quantify and specify colors. The CIE XYZ color space is a device independent color representation, while the CIE Lab color space is a device independent color representation that is perceptually uniform, meaning that equal distances in this color space correspond to equal perceived color differences
What a gamut is
A gamut is the range of colors that can be represented or reproduced by a device or system.
What the standard RGB system is, and why it wasn’t sufficient for some tasks
The standard RGB color space is a color model used to represent colors in digital displays, however it is not sufficient for some tasks because it doesn’t have a wide color range, that’s why Adobe RGB and Prophoto RGB were created
What color temperature is
The color temperature refers to the color emitted by black-body radiance at a given temperature
What the Adobe RGB and ProPhoto RGB color spaces are and why they were created
Adobe RGB and ProPhoto RGB color spaces were created to address the limitations of the standard RGB color space by providing a wider range of colors, they are used primarily in professional photography and graphic design.
