A

The Mayflower Compact was written on November 21, 1620 by William Bradford. The Mayflower Compact was written so when the pilgrims settled on land, they would establish and follow majority rules and self government. All the men on the ship signed this compact.

The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut was written by Thomas Hooker in 1639. The Fundamental Orders was the first written constitution in America. It was a basic law of the Connecticut colony from 1639 to 1662. The constitution provided the people with more power.

English Bill of Rights

A

The English Bill of Rights was written by James Madison in 1689, after the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The English Bill of Rights was a British law passed by Parliament of Great Britain in 1689 that allowed the people to have their own rights and to limit the king and queen’s powers. King James ll was forced to leave the throne and King William and Queen Mary took his place on throne. The people were given a lot of freedom, such as elections and cruel punishments.

The Virginia House of Burgesses was the first elected assembly in America. Colonist were allowed to elect people to represent them in this assembly and make decisions for the colony.

A charter was granted to the settlers by the king. This charter gave them land and rights to start the colony there. These colonies set up their own government system and elected their own officials.
