The Colonial Period (from the Pilgrims arriving to when The US became a country) took place between 1620-around 1800
There was no true “literature” yet. People read the Bible mostly. The types of writing from that period in the colonies were mostly journals and diaries and personal histories. There were also poems and sermons.
The colonists were mostly seeking religious freedom and were very hardworking, happy with a simple life, and were self-reliant (didn’t wait for others to help them-they did it themselves)
Puritans (the majority of the colonists) believed that everything, including sickness and health, is controlled by the hand of God and they should not do anything to try and change His will
