To where does colon cancer tend to metastasize?
A
Regionally via lymphatics. Hematogenous spread tends to follow portal circulation to liver.

Who should be screened for colon cancer?
A
Everyone over age 50. If pt has family Hx of colon cancer, begin screening at age 40, or 10 yrs before the age of onset in affected family member.

What is a CEA?
A
Carcinoembryonic antigen- not useful for screening, but has prognostic value (>5 ng/mL has worse prognosis) and is useful for recurrence surveillance.

Both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis increase risk of colorectal cancer. Which is worse?

UC is a greater risk increase.
