Q

When does a reaction occurs?

A

When there is a successfu collison in which per exiting bonds or the reactants are broken and new bonds from to create products.

A

States that for a successful collision to occur particles must collide with both the correct orientaion and sufficient energy

Q

Even if particles have sufficient energy why won’t they collide correctly?

A

becuase a collision with the incoorect orientation will not result in a chemical reaction

Q

Why won’t a chemical reaction occur if the particles are moving too slowly?

A

becuase of low kinetic energy. This means that they do not have enough energy and the collision will not result in a chemical reaction.

Q

What is a combination reaction (combining)

A

Is a reaction in which 2 or more substances combine to form a signle new substance. These can also be called synthesis reactions.

7
Q

Why can combing not result in an immediment chemical reaction?

A

Offen combining reactants together does not immediatley make them react beucase if the energy of the reactant particles is too low for a successful collisions to occur, some energy needs to be added to the system for the reaction to occur.

Q

Activation energy (Ea)

A

The name given to the minimum energy required to make a reaction happen.
It is measured in kilojoules per mole (kj/mol)

Q

Reactants that collide with the energy above the activation energy will…

Q

How do reactants get into a state where their bonds can break and can react to form the peoducts

Q

Activation energy on an energy diagram

A

The activation energy is the difference between the energy of the reactant and the maximum energy on the diagram.

Q

Frequency of collision is not the same as the ‘number of collisions’ or ‘more collisions’ Frequency means…

A

The number of collisions per unit time.

17

Rate of reaction by graph -

A

the rate of reaction.

18
Q

Rate of reaction by graph -
When the line becomes horizontal the…

A

reaction has stopped.

19
Q

Rate of reaction by grahp -
When are reactions usually the fastest?

A

At the begining of the grahp when the conncentration of reactants is highest.
