Duty to Report
(1) Passenger
- If driver can’t (physically unable)
- occupant shall make report
(2) Police Officer
- written report
- within 10 days
Why do Police attend collision scenes?
(1) Protect people and property
(2) The law requires it
(3) To determine a cause or reason for collision
(4) To determine violation of the law
(5) Collect information for other agencies
When receiving the call….
(1) exact location of collision
(2) severity of the injuries
(3) what emergency equipment is attending
(4) plan your route
(5) mentally prepare yourself and prioritize
Arriving at the scene. What to consider?
(1) Safe and effective position of cruiser
(2) Protect all persons at the scene
(3) High visibility garment
(4) look after emergency which left unattended, would cause the most serious consequence
Emergency Situations
(1) unsafe collision scenes
(2) Injured persons
(3) Fires
(4) Live wires
(5) Hazardous materials
Defn of Collision
the contact of motorized vehicle or streetcar or its load that causes damage to property or injury/death to persons
Transportation of dangerous goods act requires what?
(1) Placards on vehicles (all four sides)
(2) for certain types and quantities of dangerous goods
(3) documentation to be carried - look for them at collision scenes
Physical Evidence of Collision
(1) Final position of vehicles and bodies (Controlled or uncontrolled)
(2) Tire marks (3 types: Skid (locked), Scuff(rotating), tire print)
(3) metal marks (gouges and surface marks/scratches)
(4) debris (underbody, liquids, parts, cargo, road material)
(5) damage to fixed objects
