A college or university certified to provide a high-quality education in the United States.
Associate’s Degree (AS)
A two-year undergraduate degree which provides technical, academic and transferable skills needed for employment or further study in their chosen field.
Associate’s in Applied Science (AAS)
Two-year degree designed to provide in-depth skills preparing students for immediate employment in a specific career path.
Bachelor’s Degree
A four degree undergraduate degree that is focused on a specific major or area of study.
Bachelor’s of Arts (BA)
A four-year degree that emphasizes philosophy, literature, history, social sciences, art and foreign language plus greater elective choices.
Bachelor’s of Science (BS)
A four-year degree typically for technical fields which includes more math and science, lab work and major specific courses.
College
An institution of higher education that focuses on undergraduate degree programs, but typically not master’s or doctorate degrees.
Community College
A two year institution of higher education that is typically less expensive than a university, has options to earn Associate’s Degrees or Certifications
Trade School
Dedicated to teaching students a specific trade. They may offer diplomas, certificates, or introductory degrees.
Private School
An institution of higher learning funded by private donors and typically offers more scholarships to eligible students.
Public School
An institution of higher learning largely funded by state taxpayers to help offset costs for in-state residents.
Undergraduate
A college student who is working toward an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree
University
An institution of higher education often comprised of multiple schools that offer both undergraduate and graduate programs such as bachelors, master’s or doctorate degrees
