Kawasaki’s Disease
Mucocutaneous Lymph Node Syndrome
Large and Medium Vessel Vasculitis in children 104 for >5 days, unresponsive to antibiotics plus 4 of the 5 following criteria (mnemonic: CRASH)
1) Conjunctivitis
2) Rash, primarily truncal
3) Aneurysms of coronary arteries
4) Strawberry tongue, crusting of lips, fissuring of mouth, and oropharyngeal erythema
5) Hands and feet show induration erythema of palms and soles, desquamation of fingers and toes
Complications: Cardiac involvment
Tx: IVIG to prevent coronary vasculitis
High dose aspirin
PREDNISONE IS CONTRAINDICATED! WILL EXACERBATE THE DISEASE!!!!!
What should you not give to a patient with Kawasaki’s Disease?
PREDNISONE! Don’t do it! It will exacerbate the disease!
