What does the advisory board/committee do?
Oversee the implementation and evaluation of programs, identify resources, review policy, make recommendations and provide input to decision-makers.
What does the task force do?
This is the action-oriented group brought together by an overseeing committee or institution.
What does the coalition do?
This is a formal alliance of organizations that act jointly. They can be created at the community, state, regional or national level.
What does the executive board/committee do?
This is the formal group with membership of people who provide oversight, strategy development, governance, and planning for a larger entity.
How are communities defined?
By geographic, administrative, cultural or social boundaries.
What are the stages of coalition development?
The stages are: formation, maintenance, and institutionalization.
What should membership criteria reflect?
Program goals, intended functions, and partnership purpose.
What should membership selection include?
This is an iterative process that entails identifying potential members and the best-suited engagement and recruitment strategies.
What characteristics should be considered in membership selection?
Diversity, capacity, connections, expertise, knowledge, reputation, interest, personal agenda, and community ties.
Gatekeepers
Those who formally or informally control access to priority population or control specific aspects of a community.
Opinion Leaders
Respected community members who can represent the views of the priority population.
