Nurses working in general practice have long been recognised as
‘agents of
connectivity’(46). In terms of delivering mental health care, nurses working in
general practice build therapeutic relationships with consumers with mental
health issues and their families and/or support person(s) in order to maintain a
safe environment in which best practice care can be delivered.

clinic time made for the patient and broader care
in the context of a close relationship between
the GP, MHN and patient.
These patients can at times be very complex
and time consuming and specialty mental health
services
are often at the limits of their capacity
