No fighting takes place but there is hostility between countries i.e. spying, propaganda and arms race

Economy is controlled by private owners for profit

Economy benefits all as each person contributes and receives according to their ability and needs

Military alliance consisting of three major allies: Soviet Union, USA and the UK
Sphere of influence
A region over which a powerful nation exerts unofficial but political military and economic domination. Eastern Europe or the Soviet union sphere of influence

Red army
Army and air force of Russian Soviet federative Socialist Republic. The name refers to colour red which symbolise the bloodshed in the struggle against oppression. Army of USSR.
The long telegram
George Kennan sent an 8000 word telegram the Department of State detailing his view on Soviet union and the USA policy toward Communist State
Novikov telegram
Soviet response to long telegram. Nikolai Novikov warned that USA had emerged from World War II economically strong and bent on world domination. As a result, USSR needed to secure its buffer zone in Eastern Europe
Truman Doctrine
helped to prevent the spread of communism into weaker European countries and therefore upheld the policy of containment. Increased tension between the USA and Soviets was also a consequence of the Truman Doctrine as it proved that the world was divided
Marshall Plan
Marshall recommended spending a lot of money - over $12 billion to be exact. This Marshall Aid money would be spent to help the economies of Western Europe recover after World War Two and make them less likely to fall prey to communism.
