What is a Hot War? What is a Cold War?
A hot war is one where there is violence. A cold war is political, where violence is not employed.
3 key features of the Cold War?
The threat of nuclear war, competition over loyalty, and the military and economic support of each other’s enemies.
Communist views on politics, economy and beliefs?
Absence of private property, social classes, money. All wealth should be equally distributed among the ‘community’. Religion is not needed.
Capitalist views on politics, economy and beliefs?
Believes that the state should be prohibited from compelling its electorate (vote). Private parties choose how to employ their labour.
Who was Khrushchev?
He was the premier of the Soviet Union
How did Khrushchev reduce Cold War tensions?
He conducted successful negotiations and made great relationships with the US

Soviet premier Joseph Stalin, US president Franklin Roosevelt, and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill
Explain what the Berlin Blockade was
After WWII the Soviets blocked the Western Allies railway, road, and canal access to Western Berlin ( The main way the US transported resources to Berlin ). The Soviets offered to drop the blockade if the new Deutsche Mark currency was withdrawn ( This thriving currency posed a threat on the Soviet controlled Eastern Berlin ). The Western Allies organised the Berlin Airlift to carry supplies to the people of West Berlin instead.

Consequences of the Hungarian Uprising
Over 5000 Hungarians were killed and around 1000 Soviet troops. Nagy and his government were deposed.
