easier to set up - looking at patients already having treatment
dont need to recruit, randomise, and provide treatment for patients
3

disadvantages of cohort studies
A
can be long process if checking on patients for years
pts can get lost to follow up
only a certain no. of measurements can be set in place (GP)

Q
what is cofounding and why does is occur
A
occurs due to no randomisation procedure in observational studies
- allocated to treatment by GP etc
therefore patients not at same baseline
can cause bias
