What are cognitive distortions?

A

Errors in thinking that cause the individual to develop a negative body image.
May be the result of comparisons with others in terms of how they look or how much they eat. This leads to a misperception that the individual must be overweight which then leads to feelings of self-disgust and an attempt to lose weight.
