A

There will be no significant difference between word type and recall, with any observed difference being due to sampling or experimental error.

Q

AO1 - IV

A

Acoustically similar/dissimilar words / Semantically similar/dissimilar words. We will test this by utilising 4 separate simple word lists which will fit one of the 4 factors we are testing. By doing this we can effectively test how they affect LTM and STM.

Q

Procedure

A

Split into four groups, according to IV. Each group views a slideshow of a set of 10 words. Each word appears for 3 seconds.

The participants in all 4 conditions then carry out an “interference test” which involves hearing then writing down 8 numbers in the order they are shown. Then they recall the words from the slideshow in order.

The participants get a 15 minute break and perform an unrelated interference task. Then they are asked to recall the list again. The words themselves are still on display; it is the order of the words the participants have to recall.
