Cognitive Interview Flashcards
INTRO
Fisher
-cognitive interview is a technique used by police to interview witnesses after seen crime or accident
-to help facilitate the most accurate and detailed memory
-lost of open questions witness is not interrupted and free to expand
Recall everything
-Witness of an event is asked to report all detail of the event even when seems irrelevant
HOW
-Might act as a trigger to a mem and additional info
E.g
-Start from beginning what happened in the morning of the robbery
Recall in reverse
-witness asked to report what happened in a diff chronological order e.g from end of crime to start
HOW
-prevents witness reporting what they expected to happen (schema) rather than what happened
Prevents dishonesty harder to lie in reverse
E.g
-tell us what happened form when u entered the bank
Research to support AO3
P-rts effectiveness of cognitive interview in improving accuracy of EWT conducted by kohnken
E-used meta analysis of 50 studies comparing ci and si
E- reported that CI inc 41% correct info compared to si
L- coz helps witness recall info that stored in mem but not easily accessible
Limitation AO3
P- kohnken also sugg although more info remembered compared to SI
E-often more incorrect items are recalled 61% inc in incorrect info reported in CI compared to standard= false positives
E-weakness when using CI despite more info if incorrect lead to false imprisonment wasting time
L-reduces effectiveness of CI
