Overgeneralization
one negative event means total defeat
Mental filter
you focus on the one negative detail of something. stains it all.
Disqualifying the positive
discount positive experiences so you can maintain negative view.
Jumping to conclusions
making negative interpretations without facts; ie. mind reading and fortune telling
Magnification, catastrophizing or minimization
exaggerate the importance of things or inappropriately shrink things.
Emotional reasoning
You assume your negative emotions reflect the way things are. it must be true because I feel it.
Should statements
Also musts and oughts. Trying to motivate self through guilt
labeling and mislabeling
Instead of just describing your error, you add a negative label to yourself. Also applies when doing it to others.
