people choose a particular heuristic on the wrong occasion, causes inappropriate behaviour/response. e.g. causing people to gamble when they’re losing

attention bias plays role on the development and maintenance of addiction. addict pays more attention to stimulus, increase amount they engage in this behaviour

more men then women exposed to gambling in adolescence. women had later age of first bet and faster evolution of disorder
evidence of illusion of control
in a game of dice participants bet more points when they were throwing the dice than when their partner threw the dice.
