Cognitive Bias Flashcards
Priming
Nudges that produce association in your unconscious mind
Confirmation Bias
You pay attention to information that confirms previously held beliefs and ignore information that challenges preconceived notions
Hindsight Bias
Looking back on things just learned and assuming you knew or believed them all along
Bystander Affect
The more people who witness someone in distress, the less likely it is that any one individual will help
Apophenia
Seeing meaning in random, unconnected events
Misinformation Effect
The tendency to trust your memory, despite memories being constructed anew each time you recall them (rather than being played back like a recording)
Availability Heuristic
Tendency to believe something as commonplace if you can find just one example, and disbelieve something if you have never heard of it
Self-Serving Bias
Tendency to excuse your own past failures and inflate your successes
Representativeness Heuristic
Tendency to draw conclusions about people based on how representative of a preconceived notion they seem to be
