what is cognitive behavioural therapy?
Psychological therapy to help people who have anxiety, depression, PTSD and phobias
What is dental anxiety?
General type of fear, emotional response to an unknown danger or perceived threat
What is a dental phobia?
A clinical mental disorder that is an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an dentist (place, person, situation). Interferes with daily life.
What causes dental anxiety?

- friends/family opinion

What are some examples of triggers for dental anxiety?
- fear of specific stimuli (sight, sound, smell, pain)
- fear of medical catastrophe
- generalised dental anxiety
- mistrust of dental personnel
What is trauma?
An event of actual or extreme threat of physical or psychological harm which an individual experiences as traumatic, and which causes long-lasting effects
What are examples of different types of abuse?
- emotional abuse
- sexual abuse
- physical abuse
- neglect

what is the minimum age for use of MCDASf scale?
8 years old (until 15 y/o)
what can the patient expect from CBT?
- collaboration between patient & clinician
