Cognitive Flashcards
Moray - What is Dichotic listening Task?
When the subject is presented with different messages from the right and left ear simultaneously
Outline one similarity comparing Grant and Loftus & Palmer
- L&P and G +
-One similarity is the Data used (1)
-Both studies generate quantitative data (1)
-For Loftus & Palmer, it was the data to response to the speed estimation of the car and/ or if they saw broken glass (1)
-For grant the quantitative data was the mean score of the test in the matched and mismatched conditions (1)
Outline one difference between Grant and Loftus & Palmer
*L&P and G -
-One difference is the impact of the studies (1)
-One impacts how we look at law worldwide, while the other only impacts education (1)
For Loftus & Palmer, it impacts all work with police and court investigations, so eye-witness testimonies an be used more in our favour (1)
-For Grant, it only impacts classrooms for a better understanding of the best environment for students
Grant - What is context-dependent memory
It’s the ability to recall pieces of information when contextual clues relating to the environment are the same during decoding and retrieval
Outline one similarity between Moray’s study on auditory attention and Simons and Chabris’ study on visual inattention
-Both used standardized procedures (1)
-For Moray 1st exp, all participants shadowed the same prose message and all heard the 35 words in the rejected message(1)
-In Simons and Chabris, the members of each team passed an orange basketball in standardized order: player 1 to payer 2 to player 3 and to player 4. (1)
-Due to standardized procedures, the research should produce consistents findings over time
