Drugs: Sertraline
Action: Block reuptake of serotonin in presynaptic nerve terminals
Side effects: Nausea, dry mouth, insomnia, somnolence, headache, nervousness, anxiety, weight gain, GI disturbances, dizziness, fatigue, sexual dysfunction
Nursing interventions: Safer, less sedation 70% experience sexual dysfunction. Serotonin syndrome - confusion, anxiety, restlessness, hypertension, tremors, sweating, hyperpyrexia, ataxia - DC SSRI, supportive care.
