Q

Coeliac Disease Pathophysiology

A

Coeliac Disease is the result of an allergic reaction to the gliaden fraction of wheat germ. This causes an increase in the intraepithelial lymphocytes in small intestinal villi. This progresses to flattening of the intestinal villi (villous atrophy).
