minimum 6 weeks
Diagnostic process for coeliac disease? (3)
IgA tissue transglutaminase antibodies and total IgA (first-line)
IgA endomysial antibody (second-line)
Endoscopic small bowel biopsy (villous atrophy)
How should negative serology be interpreted?
Check for IgA deficiency; if deficient, check for specific IgG instead. If normal, coeliac disease unlikely
Malignancies associated with unreated coeliac disease? (3)
Small bowel adenocarcinoma
Hodgkin’s and NH lymphoma
Pancreatic cancer
Management of coeliac disease?
Adherence to a gluten free diet

5th decade (adults) around 4 yrs (child)
