CODIS Flashcards
What is the purpose of CODIS?
To generate investigative leads for unsolved cases, to identify human remains, and to help solve missing persons cases
What are the four offenses that are eligible for the DISC?
Terrorism, homicide, sexual assault, kidnapping
What has to happen before a profile can be entered into CODIS?
The eligibility must be established and the profile must be technically reviewed
What are the three levels of stringency in CODIS?
High, Moderate, and Low
What does high stringency at the locus level mean?
This refers to an exact match. For a locus to match at high stringency, the number of alleles in the target locus must be the same as the number of alleles in the candidate locus and the corresponding allelic values must be identical between the target and the candidate loci
What does moderate stringency at the locus level mean?
This allows the target and candidates to have a different number of alleles per locus. For a locus to match at a moderate stringency, all alleles from one locus must be encompassed by the alleles from the second locus
What does low stringency at the locus level mean?
This requires that at least one of the alleles in the target locus match one of the alleles in the candidate locus
Who is in CODIS?
Arrestees, Convicted Offenders, Legal Specimens, DVOVC, Suspect References, Forensic Profiles
