Codes and Standards Flashcards
Window Covering: Vertical Ignition Test
NFPA 701
Wall/Ceiling Finishes: Steiner Tunnel test ( Flame-spread rating of finishes)
ASTM E84 (UL 723)
Test that classifies materials into one of three groups based on their tested flame-spread characteristics.
ASTM E84 (steiner tunnel test)
Class I, II or III
with a flame spread ratings of 0-25, 26-75, and 76-200 respectively
What is an alternate test to ASTM E84?
NFPA 286 (room corner test)
evaluates extent to which wall and ceiling finish (other than textiles) contributes to fire growth
Common name for ASTM E84?
Steiner Tunnel Test
tests flame spread rating of finishes, can also be used to generate smoke developed index
Common name for NFPA 286?
Room corner test
evaluates extent to which wall and ceiling finishes (other than textiles) contributes to fire growth
Common name for NFPA 258 (ASTM E662)?
Smoke density chamber test
smoke developed from flaming and non flaming solid materials
Common name for ASTM E2573?
preparation of stretch systems
site-fabricated stretch wall systems
Common name for ASTM E119?
wall and floor / ceiling assembly test
fire ratings of walls, structure, and floor construction assemblies
Common name for NFPA 252 (ANSI/UL 10B)?
Fire tests of door assemblies
endurance test of doors to flame and heat transfer
Common name for NFPA 257?
Fire tests of window assemblies
endurance of glazing for 45 minutes to flame and heat transfer
Common name for ASTM E119?
fire tests of fire-resistance-rated glazing
endurance of glazing when tested as a transparent wall
Common name for CAL TB 116 (NFPA 261)?
cigarette ignition resistance test of furniture COMPOSITES
mockup of a seat cushion, including foam, liner, and fabric
Common name for CAL TB 117 (NFPA 260)?
cigarette ignition resistance test of furniture COMPONENTS
separate fabric and fillings of upholstered furniture
Common name for CAL TB 133 (NFPA 266)?
full seating test
actual sample of a chair tested to an open flame
Common name for NFPA 701?
vertical ignition test
Draperies, curtains, and other windows treatments, as well as banners, awnings and fabric structures
NFPA equivalent to CAL TB 117?

Jamie
NFPA 253 (ASTM E648), flooring radiant panel test - carpet, resilient floors, and other floor coverings in corridors. Two materials classes defined - Class I (not less than 0.45 W/cm2) and Class II (not less than0.22 W/cm2).
Common name for NFPA 253 (E648)
flooring radiant panel test
carpet, resilient floors, and other floor coverings in corridors
Common name for ASTM D2859
methamine pill test
carpets and rugs
What are the two parts of ASTM E119 test?
- heat transfer through the assembly (determines temperature at which the surface or adjacent materials on the side of the assembly not exposed to the heat source will combust).
- Hose Stream test. Uses high pressure hose stream to simulate how well the assembly stands up to an impact from falling debris and cooling and eroding effects of water.
Which test is described below?
overall the test evaluates an assembly’s ability to prevent the passage of fire, heat and hot gases for a given amount of time. Ratings are 1, 2, 3, and 4 hours. Doors and other openings can also be given 20, 30 and 45 minute ratings.
