Responsibility: Aspirational Standards

A
  1. We make decisions and take actions based on the best interests of society, public safety, and the
    environment.
  2. We only accept assignments that are consistent with our background, experience, skills, and qualifications.
  3. We fulfill the commitments that we undertake – we do what we say we will do.
  4. When we make errors or omissions, we take responsibility and fix them quickly. If we find errors made by others, we report them right away. We accept accountability for any problems and consequences caused by our mistakes.
  5. We protect proprietary or confidential information that has been entrusted to us.
  6. We uphold this Code and hold each other accountable to it.

Regulations and Legal Requirements
1. We inform ourselves and uphold the policies, rules, regulations and laws that govern our work, professional, and volunteer activities.
2. We report unethical or illegal conduct to appropriate management and, if necessary, to those affected by the conduct.

3. We bring violations of this Code to the attention of the appropriate body for resolution.
4. We only file ethics complaints when they are backed by facts.
5. We take disciplinary action against anyone who retaliates against a person raising ethics concerns.

Conflict of Interest Situations
1 We openly disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest to the right stakeholders.
2. If we have a conflict of interest, we stay out of decision-making until we’ve fully disclosed it, have a plan to manage it, and have received approval from the stakeholders.
3. We don’t make hiring, firing, or contract decisions based on personal reasons like favoritism, nepotism, or bribery.
4. We do not discriminate against anyone based on factors like gender, race, age, religion, disability, nationality, or sexual orientation.
5. We enforce organizational rules fairly, without favoritism or bias.

Conflict of Interest

A

When a PMP makes a decision that benefits them or someone they are loyal to, but harms another person or organization they also owe loyalty to, they must resolve the conflict by informing those affected. This lets the affected parties decide how the PMP should proceed.
