what is code civil?
code civil is the french civil code that is still in use, it allows people to get divorced on condition, and was the first form of a legal declaration.
Who created the civil code?
Napoleon ordered the creation of the civil code.
What were the most important things written down /changes?
The code removed all privileges based on birth, established equality before the law and secured the right to property, simplified administrative divisions, abolished the feudal system, and freed peasants from serfdom and manorial dues. The Napoleonic Code made the authority of men over their families stronger, deprived women of any individual rights, and reduced the rights of illegitimate children.
why did napoleon create the civil code?
Because napoleon wanted to modernise the legal system as it was based off of old legal systems.
What remains today?
the civil code is the building blocks of all European legal systems although isn’t in full use.
