Code Blue Flashcards
What is the correct rate and depth of compressions for an adult? (per minute)
100 - 120 compressions per minute
2 inch depth
Why is the depth of the compression important?
It allows for full recoil so the blood flows back to the heart
What is the ratio or sequence for compressions to breathes for adults?
30 compressions : 2 ventilations/breaths
What is the whole point of doing compressoins?
Get blood to the brain
How long should ventilations or breathes be in CPR?
1 second
Your patient has an advanced airway with an airway device and intubation. How do you proceed with CPR?
Need 2 people. One person gives a breathe every 6-8 seconds.
During one rescuer CPR, what is the responsibility of the one responding?
Scene size up & assessment
CPR
AED placement
- its nice to have two people present but you have to go with it
When there are 2 rescuers for CPR, what is the rescuer one’s job?

For 2 person rescue CPR, what is person two’s job?
Call for help, set up AED.
Switch rescue one after 2 minutes
How long do we wait for rescue one and two to switch?
2 minutes or when tired
How imporant is the quality of CPR?
Research suggests there should be no interruptions in order to maximize blood flow
- Respirations are not the focus anymore
What pulse do we check?
Carotid
Femoral
What pulse do we check on infants?
Brachial pulse with 2 fingers on inside of the upper arm
- don’t use your thumb bc you can think its your pulse
- expose the arm to accurately feel the pulse. take off layers
How do you assess infant level of consiousness before performing CPR
Tap the bottom of the foot, shout the name or ask if they are ok
When is consent implied?
Unconscious
Altered mental status
Mental impairment
Incapable of verbal consent or gesture
