- 1.5 oz. Vodka
- 1/2 oz. Triple Sec
- 1/2 oz. Cranberry Juice
- 1/2 oz. Lime Juice
- Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Cocktail Glass, Lime Twist
- Bartender Comments: Cheryl Cook’s name is often bandied about when discussing the Cosmo’s origin. Working in South Beach in the mid-1980s, Cook based her original drink on the then-new Absolut Citron vodka, triple sec, Rose’s lime cordial and “just enough cranberry to make it oh so pretty in pink.”
- French Martini
- 2 oz. Vodka
- 1/2 oz. Chambord (Raspberry)
- 2.5 oz. Pineapple Juice
- Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Cocktail Glass, Lemon Twist
- History: Keith McNally’s first restaurant, the Odeon, which opened in 1980 is credited for creating the drink. It was on the opening cocktail menu for his SoHo juggernaut, Balthazar.
- Preparations and Variations: Not much has changed for this 80’s icon. Chambord is sometimes swapped out for a more savory créme de cassis, but this is not the original. A guest ordering a French Martini will often expect to see recognizable French ingredients like Chambord and often Grey Goose.
- Chambord is named for the Chateau Chambord in Amboise of the Loire Valley where a similar liqueur was known to be a favorite tipple of the royalty that resided there. Its first documented reference is in 1658. The modern day Chambord was introduced by Brown Forman in 1982, and they still own it today.
- Godmother
- 1 oz. Vodka
- 1 oz. Amaretto Liqueur
- Pour over ice and stir briefly to mix the two ingredients. Double Rocks Glass
- History: It’s origin is unknown. However, it is a variation on the God Father, and Disarono claims the creative rights of the God Father.
- Preparations and Variations: One of the many variations on the God Father. This cocktail is known as a ‘duo’ or a blend of a dry spirit and a liqueur
- God Father
- 1.5 oz. Scotch Whisky
- 3/4 Amaretto
- Pour ingredients over ice, and stir gently to mix. Old Fashioned Glass
- History: The origin of this Duo is unknown, but Disaronno claims that it was the favorite cocktail of actor Marlon Brando. Either way, this cocktail first makes an appearance as the tiki era ends, and we move into the disco age of Grasshoppers and Mudslides.
- Preparations and Variations: The drink can also be made using equal parts if one wanted a sweeter version. Substitute vodka for the Scotch and you have the Godmother, or Cognac instead of the Scotch to make a French Connection.
