What is the littoral zone?
The littoral zone consists of the backshore , nearshore and offshore zones. It includes a wide variety of coastal types and it is a dynamic zone of rapid change.
What does the acronym ‘OKAY NOW FRY BANANAS’ mean
It is the order of the littoral zone starting from the sea.
OFFSHORE,NEAR-SHORE,FORESHORE,BACKSHORE.
What are the characteristics of the offshore zone
The offshore zone is the area of deeper water beyond the point at which waves start to break. There can be friction between the wave and the seabed and this an cause distortion of the wave shape.
What are the characteristics of the Nearshore zone ?
This is an area of shallow water beyond the low tide mark,friction between the seabed and waves distorts sufficiently until it breaks.
What are the characteristics of the Foreshore ?
This is the area between the high tide mark and the low tide mark.
What are the characteristics of the Backshore ?
The area above the high tide mark, affected by wave action only during major storm events.
