A
- form in sheltered areas
e.g. bay - deposition – constructive wave movement – when swash is stronger
- usually occurs in summer months
- sand can be blown on shore and create sand dunes

A
an extended stretch of sand or shingle that extends out to sea from the shore
- when there is change in coastline or mouth of river
- may have hooked end depends on opposing wind and currents

A
- sediment transported by longshore drift
- where coastline changes direction – deposition of sediment
- spit slowly builds up to sea level and extends in length
- change in wind – hooked end
- area behind becomes sheltered
- deposited to form salt marsg

when a spit grows across a bay and joins two headlands
- bar of sand formed

A
small body of water cut off from beach
- formed behind bar or tombolo
- not last forever – fill w sediment

formed when spit joins mainland to island
e.g. chersil beach in dorset joined to isle of portland
