Q

When is the use of reverse thrust assumed?

A

OM B 4.5.2 and OM B 4.6.6
• DRY: No credit for reverse
• WET OR CONTAMINATED: Max reverse thrust on the operative
engine is assumed in the rejected takeoff case.

Q

What is the minimum RVR for Takeoff?

A

OM A 8.1.3.3
• RVR 125 m if:
• Runway Edge and Centerline lighting and multiple RVR information and all conditions
below are met:
• Low Visibility Procedures are in force;
• High intensity runway centerline lights spaced 15 m or less and high intensity edge
lights spaced 60 m or less
• Flight crew members have completed LVO training in a simulator
• A 90 m visual segment is available from the cockpit at the start of the take-off run
• The required RVR has been achieved for all of the relevant RVR reporting points NOTE: 125m for all relevant reporting points. Initial part (TDZ) can be replaced by pilot assessment)

Q

You receive a RED bomb warning. What will you do? On stand? Taxiing or in flight?

A

ON STAND – RED:
• Disembark with hand baggage. Security problem. Slides only in extreme
emergency.
• Remove passengers to separate area from other passengers.
• Remove aircraft to remote location
• All clear: Full search including catering, all passengers and bags to be
re-screened.

On STAND – AMBER:
• Discuss with Network Duty Manager TAXYING – RED:
• Advise airfield and passengers of a security problem.
• Remote parking – request immediate Steps
• Disembark with hand baggage.
• Slides only if no Steps avail – then normal passenger evacuation
• Remove passengers 200 m upwind

IN FLIGHT – RED:
• Declare Emergency – Divert to nearest suitable airfield
• Follow QRH
• Brief Cabin Crew to perform a discrete search of toilets and galleys.
• On landing: Follow procedure for taxi

Q

EXPLAIN THE AUTOBRAKE FUNCTION:

A
  • LO mode sends progressive pressure to the brakes 4 seconds after the ground spoilers deploy, in order to decelerate the aircraft at 1.7 meters/second2
  • MED mode sends progressive pressure to the brakes 2 seconds after the ground spoilers deploy, in order to decelerate the aircraft at 3 meters/second2
  • In the case of an aborted takeoff, maximum pressure goes to the brakes, as soon as the system generates the ground spoiler deployment order.

Q

When can we consider two runways to be separate?

A

OM A 8.1.2.2.2.4
• Separate landing surfaces which may overlay or cross such that if
one of the runways is blocked, it will not prevent the planned type
of operations on the other runway
• Each runway shall have:
- Separate approach procedure
- Based on a separate navigation aid

Q

What is an approach ban?

A

OM B 2.3.18.1
• The final approach segment may not be continued beyond 1000 ft if the reported RVR is below the published minima for the required transmissometers. After 1000 ft, if RVR becomes lower than the minima, the approach may be continued.

Q

When can we fly below CNR?

A

OM A 8.3.7.1.3

The Commander must take into account the traffic and the operational conditions prevailing at the destination aerodrome, at the destination alternate aerodrome and at any other adequate aerodrome, in deciding whether to proceed to the destination aerodrome or to divert so as to perform a safe landing with not less than Final Reserve Fuel

  • He may continue when the landing is assured, and
  • EAT or maximum delay known, and
  • At least Final Reserve Fuel will remain at touchdown.

(The landing is assured if, in the judgement of the Flight Crew, it could be completed in the event of any forecast deterioration in the weather and plausible single failures of ground and/or airborne facilities e.g. CAT II/III to CAT I.)

Q

When do we need two destination alternates?

A

OM A 8.1.2.2.2.3 Destination
• The weather reports or forecasts at destination are below the applicable planning minima.
• No meteorological information is available.
• The landing performance requirements cannot be assured at a destination aerodrome due to dependence on a specific wind component or runways state.

Q

TCAS what is the maximum rate recommended when reaching altitude and as from when do you take it?

A

FCOM 3.34.34 TCAS
• (1500ft/min-2000ft before)
• Pilots should comply with the vertical speed limitations during the last 2000 feet of climb or descent. In particular, pilots should limit vertical speeds to 1500 feet/min during the last 2000 feet of a climb or descent, especially when they are aware of traffic that is converging in altitude and intending to level off 1000 feet above or below the pilot’s assigned altitude.
