Explain the journey of response.
Stimuli - receptor - sensory neurone - CNS - relay neurone - motor neurone - effector organ (muscle or gland)
Where is FSH made and what is its purpose?
Made by the pituitary gland. Causes the egg to mature and oestrogen to be produced.
Where is oestrogen produced and what is its purpose?
Made by the ovaries. Stops the further production of FSH, stimulates the production of LH and the womb lining.
Where is LH produced and what is it’s purpose?
Made by the pituitary gland. Stimulates the mature egg to be released from the ovary.
What does the contraceptive pill do?
It prevents the production of FSH - no eggs mature.
What is fertility treatment?
When FSH and LH are given to women who cannot produce mature eggs.
What are the advantages of contraceptive pills?
Helps to reduce family size.
Allows women to plan pregnancies.
What are the disadvantages of contraceptive pills?
Causes side effects
Ethical or religious reasons
What are the advantages of IVF?
Can help couples to have a baby.
What are the disadvantages of IVF?
Expensive.
What are the internal conditions that the body controls?
Water content
Ion content
Temperature
Blood sugar level
