Co-dominance and Multiple Alleles Flashcards
1
Q
Definition of codominance
A
- a form of inheritance where both alleles in a heterozygous individual express themselves in the organism
- with neither dominant or recessive, and both contributing to the phenotype
2
Q
What are codominant alleles?
A
Two alleles which both expresses themselves in the heterozygous condition
3
Q
What are multiple alleles?
A
A form of inheritance where there are more than two alleles / alternative forms of a gene controlling one characteristic
4
Q
The three alleles for ABO blood group
A
- I^A
- I^B
- I^O
5
Q
Which alleles are dominant and which alleles are recessive
A
I^A and I^B are codominant
I^A and I^B are dominant over I^O
I^O is the recessive allele
6
Q
Genotype of blood group A(phenotype)
A
I^A I^A , I^A I^O
7
Q
Genotype of blood group B(phenotype)
A
I^B I^B , I^B I^O
8
Q
Genotype of blood group AB(phenotype)
A
I^A I^B
9
Q
Genotype of blood group O(phenotype)
A
I^O I^O
