Exposure to an increased partial pressure of oxygen above that encountered in normal daily living may be toxic to the body.
CNS Oxygen Toxicity
What two areas of the body affected by CNS Oxygen Toxicity
Central Nervous System and the Pulmonary
System.
Sx: (VENTIDC)
(1) Tunnel vision, decreased peripheral vision, and other visual symptoms
(2) Tinnitus
(3) Nausea
(4) Twitching- of eyes and facial muscles
(5) Irritability
(6) Dizziness
(7) Convulsions
CNS Oxygen Toxicity
Treatment of CNS Oxygen Toxicity
(1) Immediately shift to a breathing mixture with lower oxygen percentage
(2) Immediately ascend (if the patient is not convulsing)
(3) In a recompression chamber, remove oxygen mask and follow emergency
procedures
