CN V Flashcards
CN V is called which nerve?
trigemenial nerve
What kind of function does it have and what do they do?
sensory information from the face
provides motor innervation to muscles of mastication.
It passes through which cranial fossa? and what kind of swelling would it produce?
the middle cranial fossa and the swelling is called trigemenial ganglion
What does the trigemenial ganglion contain?
the cell bodies of most of the sensory neurons that make up the trigemenial nerve
Where does the trigemenial nerve lie?
in the trigemenial impression
What three division does it split up into?
- opthalamic division
- maxillary division
- Mandibular division
What does the opthalamic division provide? And where does it pass through?
passes through lateral wall of cavernous sinus and enters orbit through superior orbital fissure
provides sensory innervation to face
Maxillary division passes through what? And provides what?
passes though lateral wall of cavernous sinus and exits middle cranial fossa through foramen rotundum
provides sensory innervation to face
Mandibular division exits through what? and provides what?
exits the middle cranial fossa through foramen ovale
Provides sensory innervation to the face and provides motor innervation to the muscles of mastication.
