CN 1: name? S/M? Test?
Olfactory - sensory (smell)
-pt closes eyes and plugs one nostril
-place smell under pt’s nose and ask “can you smell that?” If yes, “can you ID the scent?”
CN 2: name? S/M? Tests?
Optic - sensory (vision)
Visual acuity: cover one eye and have pt read smallest line on Snellen chart
Visual fields: cover one eye and PT moves fingers. Pt lets you know when they see it and how many fingers
Pupillary response: shine light and see if pupil constricts or dilates
What is an L1 pupillary response lesion?
Ipsilateral CN 3; direct response
What is a L2 pupillary response lesion?
Contralateral CN 3, consensual response (pupil on opposite side dilates)
What is a L3 pupillary response lesion?
Ipsilateral CN 2, both direct and consensual responses (both pupils dilate?)
