What is the Function/Action of CN II- Opitc?
Sensory Nerve: ability to see/vision
What is the function of CN III- Occulomotor?
Moter nerve:
- lifts the upper eyelid
- controls pupil dilation
- moves eye vertical and toward middle
What is the function of CN IV, Trochlear?
Motor Nerve: Rotates the eyes down and out
What is the function/action of CN V, Trigeminal?
Motor and Sensory nerve
Sensory: tactical sensation to the anterior 2/3 of the tongue
Tactile, temperature and pain sensory to these areas
Opthamalic: sense in forehead
Maxillary: sense in cheek
Mandibular: sense in jaw
Motor:
- Muscles of mastication
- muscles in the mylohyoid (the floor of the mouth)
What is the function/action of CN VI, Abducens?
Motor nerve: lateral eye movement or abduction
Function/Action of CN I- Olfactory
Sensory nerve: The sense of smell
What is the function/action of CN VII, Facial?
Sensory and Motor Nerve
Sensory:
-Sense of taste from the anterior 2/3 of the tongue, the floor of the mouth and the palate
Motor:
Innervation of the muscles in the face, cheeks and scalp
What is the function/action of CN VIII, Vestibulocochlear?
The sense of hearing
What is the function/action of CN IX, Glossalpharyngeal?
Motor and Sensory Nerve
Sensory:
- taste and touch to the POSTERIOR 1/3 of the tongue
- sensation of the velum/soft palate and oral pharynx (the gag reflex)
Motor: muscles of the soft palate, middle constrictor of the pharynx and the muscles of the larynx

Sensory and Motor Nerve
Sensory: sensory for abdominal viscera, heart and respiratory apparatus
**can ask patient if there is any new trouble with breathing or heart problems
Motor: muscles of soft palate, constrictor muscles of the pharynx and muscles of the larynx
