What is section 14 of Oranga Tamariki Act 1989?
Identifies children and young people(CYP) in need of care & protection.
If being/likely to be seriously harmed, ill treated, abused or deprived.
What is the paramount principle of OT?
Section 6
The welfare and interest of the CYP shall be first and paramount consideration
Define a child
Means a person under the age of 14 years
Define a young person
Means a person over the age of 14 years but under 18 years
Care and protection principles are also in section 13 of the OT- what is it?
The well-being of the child is entwined with that of his or her family. The child’s wellbeing is to be promoted by or through whammy to the fullest extend possible (take services to wrap around and support family).

What is section 48of the OT Act 1989? (Out to late)
Unaccompanied CYP
If found unaccompanied & their physical/ mental health is being or is likely to be impaired, police can take the CYP & deliver to parent or caregiver ( if no consent is given/ or parents don’t want them) place them in the custody of OT.
What is section 42 of the OT Act? (In the poo)
Search without warrant
Any officer who believes on reasonable grounds.
That it is critically necessary to protect CYP from injury or death.
May enter & search (by force if necessary) anywhere
& remove or detain CYP
Place CYP with OT
What is section 39 of the OT Act 1989?
Out of time
Place of safety warrant (mostly done by social workers)
An authorised warrant from the courts issued as they believe on reasonable grounds that CYP has suffered/ will suffer ill treatment, serious neglect, abuse, harm

Children left unaccompanied
If a parent/ caregiver who has the care of a child under 14
Leaves that child
Without making reasonable provision for supervision & care of child
