Clutch Flashcards
What is a clutch?
A clutch is found in vehicles with manually transmission.
What is a clutch’s function?
The clutch disengages the engine from the transmission, allowing it to continue running while the vehicle is at rest. It also allows the release of the engine from the transmission during gear shifts.
What parts does a clutch have?
The clutch has a fly wheel, a pressure plate, a friction disc, and a release mechanism.
What are splines?
Splines on the transmission input shaft slide into splines in the center of the clutch disc allowing the clutch to slide back and forth on the I tour shaft as it is clamped to the flywheel and then released.
What parts does a clutch disc have?
The clutch disc has several of main parts; a hub and damper, facings, and plates.
What is a clutch part?
The clutch part is the knee part of a disc. It includes the splines that slide over the input shaft. Most clutch disc hubs are dampened hubs.
What are torsional dampers?
Torsional dampers are usually made out of coil springs, although they are occasionally made of rubber. They are positioned between the disc plate and the clutch hub to absorb shock during engagement .
Clutch disk:
Clutch disc has facings made of friction material usually containing molded or woven asbestos. Facing material must be able to withstand the extreme heat that is given was the clutch is slipped during engagement.
What are the benefits of woven asbestos.
Fibers are visible in a woven disc and woven asbestos transfers heat better than molded asbestos does.
