C.L.P.N. Chary Flashcards
What shape are carob hydrates?
A circle
Carbohydrates are made of what?
C-H-O in a 1:2:1 ratio
What elements are in lipids(fats)?
C-H-O in a carboxyl group
What elements are in proteins?
C-H-O-N
And amino groups are -N-H
They are also in the carboxyl group
What elements are nucleus acids made out if?
C-H-O-N-P
What’s the monomer of carbohydrates?
Monosaccharides
Means one sugar
Ex. Sucrose, glucose, galactose, fructose
What’s the monomer of lipids (fats)?
One glycerol and three fatty acids
What’s the monomer of proteins?
Amino acids, of which there are twenty different kinds
What’s the monomer of nucleic acids?
Nucleotides
What foods are carbs found in?
Bread, pasta, noodles, grains, sugars, fiber,面包,面条,包子,饣交子
What foods are lipids (fats) found in?
Dairy products, animal fats, plant oils
What foods are proteins found in?
Meat, eggs, fish/soy, beans nuts
What foods are nucleic acids found in?
Trick question! Nucleic acids can’t be found in foods because they are made by cells
What are carbs used for?
Quick energy, fuel, making the structure of cell walls, and exoskeletons
What are lipids used for?
Stored energy and cell membrane
What are proteins used for?
Building blocks if body
What are nucleic acids used for?
Genetic info, blueprints of life, energy movement, ATP equals energy current of cells
Examples of carbs?
Plants as starch
Animals as glycogen
Table sugar as sucrose
(Disucharide)
Examples of lipids
In the body they are found as wax, oils, fats and stereotoids
They are non-polar and non soluble
Examples of proteins?
Enzymes, muscles, hair, skin, hormones, blood and antibodies
Examples of nucleic acids
DNA RNA and ATP
