clouds and their role in the cryosphere Flashcards
what is the cryosphere
the places on earth that are so cold that water is a frozen solid
give examples of cryospheres
continental ice sheets found in greenland and antarctica, ice caps, areas of snow and permafrost
what are the two primary roles of clouds int he cryosphere
clouds act as a:
source of mass through precipitation
sink by modulating the radiation budget q
what do you call liquid that exists below 0 degrees C
suppercooled ( hasnt become solid tho)
what is remote sensing
measuring or inferring the physical properties of an object or medium, using a sensor that is at some distance from the object or medium
what is cloud radiative effect
the cloud radiative effect is the difference between the radiative energy budget of clear-sky and all-sky conditions. The all-sky radiative energy values include clear and cloudy observations so the difference leaves the impact of clouds only.
