- Quote a word/phrase from the linking sentence
- Explain how it relates back to the previous point
- Quote a different word/phrase from the linking sentence
- Explain how it relates forward to the next point
How can you pick up a bonus point for linking questions?
Comment on the conjunction (linking word) and how it shows a turn in the argument or a continuation of it.
What is the formula for sentence structure questions?
- State the technique
- State the effects
- Relate them to the passage
What is the effect of a question?
- If a character uses lots of questions they may be confused, nosy, curious, etc. If the writer asks a question directly to you they may be trying to get you to think about something in order to persuade you.
What is the effect of an exclamation?
shows the writer is feeling a strong emotion and trying to make you feel it too. Always name the specific emotion eg anger, surprise…
