What are heaves?
Felt as a kick to the palm - associated with right ventricular hypertrophy
What are thrills?
Vibrations that indicate turbulent blood flow
What effect does inspiration have on murmurs?
It enhances right-sided murmurs
What can splinter heamorrhages be a sign of?
infective endocarditis - vegetations break off and manifest as lesions under capillary
Difference between Osler’s nodes and Janeway lesions?
osler’s nodes are on tips of fingers, janeway over palms
Where is right horizontal fissure located?
horizontal line from sternum at 4th costal cartilage to oblique fissure
What level is transtubercular plane at?
L5
What level is transpyloric plane at?
L1 - halfway between sternal notch and pubic symphysis
What is McBurney’s point?
Location of appendix - 1/3 distance from ASIS to umbilicus
What is Rovsings sign?
pressure in LIF causes pain in RIF in acute appendicitis
What is Murphy’s sign?
press in right costal margin and ask patient to breathe in. If there is pain then the gallbladder is inflamed
What are Kaiser-Fleischer rings?
rings that occur in eyes of patients with wilson’s disease due to copper deposits in iris
What is acropachy?
thickening of extremities - digital clubbing. Grave’s specific
What is dysdiadochokinesia?
inability to perform rapid alternating movements, indicates cerebellar lesion
What nerve roots does triceps reflex test for?
C7, C8
What nerve root does finger adduction test?
T1
What nerve roots does achilles tendon reflex test?
S1 S2
What is Webber’s test?
placing tuning fork in middle of forehead and asking whether louder in one ear or the same
If someone has conductive hearing loss what would be the result of Weber’s test?
It would be louder in the affected ear
If someone had conductive hearing loss what would the result of Rinne’s test be?
Bone would be louder than air
What is the normal carrying angle of elbow for men and women?
Men 5-15 degrees
Women 10-25 degrees
What ligament prevents anterior dislocation of shoulder?
glenohumeral ligament
What muscle does the first 15 degrees of abduction and then the next 15-60 degrees?
0-15 = supraspinatus
15-60 = deltoid
after that trapezius
What muscle does empty can test test?
supraspinatus

What is being tested when looking for winging of scapula?
serratus anterior - long thoracic nerve
